In this project problems of the restoration of the world-famous architecture and historic preservation MELNIKOV’S “BACHMETEVSKIY GARAGE COMPLEX” have been considered .
This Garage complex is the first in the series of garage buildings by K.S.Melnikov and one of the best examples of Moscow industrial architecture. Despite a national and international campaign for its salvation, launched in 2000, the building was half destroyed in 2001-2002. Its roof and part of the metal trusses were dismantled.
This project is not only an architectural project; this is also a research work. There was a grave preliminary work with archival documents of «GUOP» (central administration of the architecture preservation security), restoration original Melnokow’s drawings and exploration of the area of the garage complex.
On the first floor of the garage is projected the International Motor show of an old and pilot automobiles and multimedia interior conducting domestic and foreign auto-companies. Accommodation of light and laser installations, for carrying out of shows-presentations of new models of motor vehicles and demonstrations of last achievements in the auto-industries is planned. Also the underground level with parking place for 68 automobiles is projected.
Thus the volumetric-spatial decision of the architect Melnikov is completely kept.
Reconstruction of a building was based on a small amount of photographic materials. Due to research of references accuracy and validity of scientific research has increased. "Opening" of original drawings of garage was one of successes in work.
As a result of the done work: in design materials the image and an atmosphere of town-planning ensemble is completely kept; as a result of carrying out-natural-dimension works, the sizes of objects are revealed; working drawings are reconstructed; the project of a lay-out and an accomplishment of adjoining territory are developed.
The diploma project has been awarded with a medal on all-russian competition of scientifically technical creativity of youth (NTTM-2004) in Moscow.Materials of the project are transferred to the A.V.Schusev’s State museum of the architecture.
